Success stories / Italian Restaurant, Chicago IL

From walk-ins only to booked weekends: how a Chicago Italian restaurant filled its dining room

A family-run neighborhood Italian restaurant with a loyal Sunday crowd needed the rest of Chicago to find it, and needed them to reserve before they arrived.

The challenge

Diners decide in about a minute. They search 'Italian restaurant near me' or a neighborhood name, glance at photos, check hours, look for a menu, and try to reserve. If any of that fails, they move on to the next place on the map. The restaurant had a Facebook page, a PDF menu that would not open on a phone, and a reservation line that rang in the middle of dinner service.

The result was a room that was full on Sunday from regulars and half-empty on Friday when strangers were looking. Private events, the most profitable bookings, came in only through people who already knew the owner.

The solution

We built a site that loads instantly on a phone and puts the four things a hungry person wants in the first screen: hours, menu, reserve, directions. The menu is real HTML, searchable, and readable in a cab.

Behind that, pages for the neighborhood, private dining, and catering give search engines the structure to surface the restaurant for every version of the search, from date night to rehearsal dinner.

What we did

  1. 1

Menu as a web page, not a PDF

Search engines read it, phones render it, and every dish name becomes a way to be found.

  2. 2

    Reserve without calling the kitchen

Online reservations linked from the header and every section, with hours and a map one tap away.

  3. 3

    Sell the private room

A dedicated private dining page with photos, capacity, sample menus, and a short inquiry form, so events stop depending on who knows the owner.

The result

Weekend online reservations tripled within a season. The restaurant now ranks in the top three for Italian restaurant searches in its neighborhood, and private event inquiries went from a trickle to more than forty a quarter.

Cancelled our old web guy after one call with these folks. Wish we'd found them two years ago.
